I'm forwarding my e-mail address to Google (Gmail). Why are my e-mails delayed?

Dear Customers,
It has been reported that some clients using a redirection for their email addresses to Google (Gmail) have experienced forwarding delays between 30 minutes and 4 hours.
After several months of inquiries and work to to overcome this problem, no satisfactory solution has been found. The source is independant from our servers or team’s expertise. This delay is generated by Google’s own fitering rules, which we have no control over. When an e-mail is redirected, it’s the whole e-mails recieved by the hosted address including spams that are forwarded to Gmail. SPAM can originate elsewhere, but because it is forwarded, it would appear as if you are sending it which is why Google defers reception of your mails as a conscious inconvenience.
If you wish to continue forwarding your emails to GMAIL, then you'll probably be better off just setting up the domain name with Google App's service.

What is an SSL certificate?

A standard SSL certificate, also known as a Domain Validation (DV) SSL certificate, primarily secures communication between a web browser and a server using the HTTPS protocol. Here are the main security features provided by a standard SSL certificate:

  1. Data encryption: One of the main functions of a standard SSL certificate is to encrypt the data transmitted between the user's browser and the web server. When a website uses an SSL certificate, the data, including sensitive information such as login credentials, credit card information, or any other type of confidential data, is encrypted during transit. This means that even if someone intercepts this data, it will be unreadable and unusable.
  2. Server authentication: A standard SSL certificate allows for the authentication of the server to which the user is connecting. When the SSL certificate is installed on the server, it contains information about the website owner (the certificate holder), such as the associated domain name. When the browser connects to the website, it verifies the authenticity of the SSL certificate using the Certification Authorities (CAs) that issued the certificate. This ensures that the user is connecting to the legitimate site and not an imposter site.
  3. Security indicators in the browser: When a website uses an SSL certificate, modern browsers typically display security indicators, such as a padlock icon or the "https://" prefix in the address bar. This indicates to visitors that the connection is secure and their data is protected while browsing the site.
  4. Protection against man-in-the-middle attacks: Through data encryption and server authentication, a standard SSL certificate protects against man-in-the-middle attacks. These attacks involve a malicious third party attempting to intercept or manipulate communications between the user and the server. The SSL certificate ensures that the data cannot be read or modified by unauthorized third parties.

In summary, a standard SSL certificate secures data exchanges between the user's browser and the server by encrypting information and verifying the authenticity of the visited website. This helps protect the confidentiality of sensitive data and creates a secure environment for website visitors.

What is the difference between an SSL certificate, wildcard certificate, and SAN certificate?

Standard SSL Certificate

Validity 1 year - Secures the domain with and without "www"

Wildcard SSL Certificate

Validity 1 year - Secures the main domain + all first-level subdomains (e.g., bla.domaine.fr, sous.domaine.fr, etc., but not sous.sous.domaine.fr)

SAN SSL Certificate

Validity 1 year - "SAN", which stands for "Subject Alternative Name", can be more easily referred to as "multi-domains". Multi-domains start from 3, and then you can add as many as needed. In a multi-domain certificate, there are no restrictions regarding subdomains or others. You can include different domains and subdomains in a single multi-domain certificate, such as domaine.fr, sous.domaine.fr, autredomaine.fr, sous.sous.autredomaine.fr, etc.

Now that I understand the purpose of an SSL certificate and have decided which one best suits my needs, what should I do?

There are several scenarios, but initially, you will need to place your order by selecting the offered item under your domain name, proceed to the checkout, and follow the steps until payment.

1st Configuration - Your domain name is hosted on our servers, just like your website. !?

We take care of all aspects of the order for you.

Once the order has been processed, you will receive a confirmation email to inform you about the progress of the order. You can then verify that the certificate is properly in place by visiting your site's page and ensuring that the URL starts with "https://" instead of "http://" and that the padlock icon is present in the browser's address bar.

2nd Configuration - Your domain name is managed by our servers, but your site is hosted elsewhere

  • It is important to ensure that your site's hosting provider allows the addition of an external SSL certificate before placing your order.
  • If possible, we will send you the certificate via email. You will then need to add it to the location where your site is hosted.

3rd Configuration - Your domain name is managed by an external hosting provider on servers that are not ours

  • It is important to ensure that your site's hosting provider allows the addition of an external SSL certificate before placing your order.
  • If possible, we will send you the DNS record (DNS field) via email, which you will need to add to the DNS zone at your hosting provider. This record will authenticate you.
  • Once authenticated, we will send you the SSL certificate to add to your hosting.

I have already ordered an SSL certificate, but for my website's requirements, I need to change the type of SSL. What will happen to my previous certificate?

Whether it's a standard, wildcard, or SAN certificate, you can secure your site with only one certificate at a time. The old one will need to be revoked.

Remember to back up your files and configurations before making any changes so that you can revert to the previous state in case of any issues. If you're unsure about the steps to follow, it's recommended to seek assistance from a system administrator or a competent professional in SSL certificate management.
